Maitreya

Maitreya, who's name in Sanskrit means "loving kindness" according to the Buddhist religion will appear on earth in the future and teach the world pure enlightenment and will replace Siddhārtha Gautama Buddha, who started the Buddhist religion as the head of the Buddhist religion. Maitreya will be the 5th Buddha of the present Kalpa (time) Buddhists believe that Maitreya will return in 30,000 years.

Maitreya is usually depicted sat down, dressed in Indian royalty clothing and a Khata (a scarf symbolising purity & goodwill, carrying a Dhammacakka - an eight spoked wheel of Dharmaic.

Maiterya is said to have shown his Five treatises through Asanga. The Five Treatises of Maiteya are: Ornament for Clear Realization, Ornament for the Mahayana Sutras Sublime Continuum of the Mahayana, Distinguishing Phenomena and Pure Being and Distinguishing the Middle and the Extremes, these five scriptures make up the third turning of the Wheel of Dhamaic.

It is said when he appears all gods, people and all creatures: "will lose their doubts, and the torrents of their cravings will be cut off: free from all misery they will manage to cross the ocean of becoming; and, as a result of Maitreya's teachings, they will lead a holy life. No longer will they regard anything as their own, they will have no possession, no gold or silver, no home, no relatives! But they will lead the holy life of chastity under Maitreya's guidance. They will have torn the net of the passions, they will manage to enter into trances, and theirs will be an abundance of joy and happiness, for they will lead a holy life under Maitreya's guidance."

It is believed that Maitreya currently waits his appearance in Tushita Heaven, one of the six Deva worlds in the Buddhist Universe. When Maitreya returns it will be prophesied by the seas decreasing in size, rue dhrama being unveiled to people, allowing construction of a new world. His coming also signifies the end of the middle period in which we currently reside.
