Shiva

Shiva's roll in the Hindu trinity is to destroy the universe so that he can recreate, Shiva is the third God in the Hindu trinity the other two being Vishnu and Brahma. Hindu's believe that Shiva's powers are use to destroy imperfections and false illusions in the world allowing for beneficial changes to the world, he is Destruction is seen as a positive change.

Shiva is seen as both positive and negative due to his powers to destroy and and re build.

Shiva has a wife whose name is Parvati, her presence brings balance to Shiva, who without her has untamed passion and is hedonistic.

Shiva has a third eye representing insight fullness and great wisdom the third eye is also the source of his untamed energy. Shiva wares a cobra necklace this is to show his power over the earth's most dangerous creatures. Shiva also has three white lines drawn in ash horizontally on his forehead, they are used to cover up is third eye and also show his super wealth and power.

Shiva is depectied in animal skin sitting in the yogic position, Parvati when shown is always seated beside Shiva. Occasionally Shiva is shown as half man half woman this image shows both Shiva and Parvati as one, split horizontally down the middle. Shiva is also seen as the Lord Of the Dance, this coupled with his hedonistic side are reasons he is linked with Goa Trance, the rhythm of dance is often see as metaphor for balance within the Universe, which Shiva also skilfully holds.

The Tandav is Shiva's most important dance, it is a cosmic dance of death which Shiva preforms at the end of time to destroy the Universe. It is said that Shiva preformed the Tandav once before by accident and almost signalled the end of time thankfully being persuaded to stop before the dance was completed.

Shiva and his wife Pavati are seen by Hindus as the perfect definition of marital bliss.
