Reflexology

In reflexology pressure is applied to different parts of the feet or hands, as it is belived by reflexologists that areas of the feet, or hands corrospond to differnent parts of the body, the right foot or hand pertaining to the right side of the body and the left to the left.

A similair technique to reflexology has been practiced in China and Egypt for thousands of years. An early anscestor to reflexology is "zone therapy" which was developed in the early 20th centuary by a Doctor named William Fitzgerald.

In the 1930's a pychotherapist and nurse by th name of Eugine Ingham developed Dr William Fitzgeralds methods further including specific reflex points, and zone therapy was renamed reflexology.

In Reflexology it is believed that the body is mapped out on the hands or feet, and that by applying pressure to specific parts of these apertures relief from pain will be gained. The right hand or foot being specific to the right side of the body, and the left hand side by the left hand or foot.

The most common use of reflexology maps the body out on the foot, The arms and shoulders are mirrored towards the outer edge of the foot, the spine down the inside, the fingers or toes reflexing the head and neck and the ball of the foot reflexing the chest and upper spine.
