Started over in 1997 by the name “Reptile”, DJing Club, House and Techno in small clubs in Algarve (Portugal). 2 years later moved on to Acid, Hardcore and Trance by the name "Belzbu". In the year 2000 he started Djing Goa and Producing Hip hop and very Psy Experimental Dance Music.
In 2003 he started performing live, playing Acid Trance. 2004 he moved to England started producing PsyTrance and Chill Out and changed his name to "Rox". Later on in 2004 he finally changes and registers his Artist name to "Mind Doctors Make Acid". From 2004 to 2009, M.D.M.A has performed in Festivals like "Eastern Haze", "Town Centre Music Festival", and also in clubs like "WaterFront" & "Media" (Norwich), "Black Swan" (Bristol) and "Rasputins".
Mind Doctors Make Acid uses classical music techniques to produce his music, there for some of his tracks are quite long. His objective is to incorporate has much harmony and melody in Psytrance as possible without making it cheesy.
Mind Doctors Make Acid believes that an artist shouldn't stick to just one style of Psytrance because every song has a different essence, an artist doesn't always feel happy to only do full on nor aggressive to always do dark. Back in the days there weren't so many tags and artists would do whatever they pleased without worrying about tags. Why not keep it that way? Imagine a full hour of dark psy, just like a straight line with no ups nor downs... boring... Now imagine an hour of Full on then progressive then dark and then something else... a lot more interesting no? Music is not monotonous so let's not keep it boring.
"I was 13 when Guns N Roses and Metallica start drawing my attention to music, later on hip hop started to show different and interesting sounds like scratching vinyl's an different effects, soon enough I was drawn into Dance music and it was like water to my ears.
On my 14th birthday I was in Algarve on vacation showing a friend of mine some of my mixes done with cassette recorders and my friend told me why not to consider becoming a D.J. Light was made and I went back home with the aspiration of becoming a D.J. Producer. My first encounter with music hardware was in 1997 with a Yamaha RM1X, it taught me a lot about musicality and texture. Later on I start messing about with a Roland VS-890 and Fruity Loops on the computer. When I was about 18 years old I started to develop a huge interest in PsyTrance, I was listening to Skazi, Sun Project, Mumbo Jumbo, GMS and others.
That was the time when I was playing in every Illegal rave I could find, I even set one or 2 up just for the fun of it. Weekend after weekend, going crazy with the positive vibes of the audience." In 2004 I felt that I should move to England, don't ask me why but I just felt that it was my destiny. I ended up in Norfolk and soon found out that psytrance was hard to find in this area, I asked people on the street, clubs and record shops for psytrance and only had results has "Psy what?" or "Not much of it about mate, sorry.". I was a bit desperate until I met this guy "Simon" who is presently a very good friend of mine who set me up to play at the "Eastern Haze Festival's" first edition and at the following party at the "Waterfront" club.
On the Eastern Haze second edition I heard that they had a tent just for Psytrance and couldn't resist to pay the entrance fee, when I got in there I met this awesome crew called "Ninja Hippies" who let me play at their tent and enjoyed it so much that they invited me to play at one of their parties in Bristol at "The Black Swan".
Later on I met Lucy, a D.J. that let me play at one of her parties in Norwich and for what I have been told I managed to develop a small fan base on that party. Later on I met Darren from Psychology who set me up to play at "Media" night club for a few times and at the "Regal" where I met his associate "Kif" and also signed a contract with "Symmetry Promotions".
My Gear list so far is:
Promoters: "Symmetry Promotions"
